It's amazing how a little thing like the material used to make a piece of furniture can change its entire character. This is certainly true with upholstered furnishings. The difference between a fabric sofa and one made of fine leather is like night and day. It's not that one is inferior to the other. Rather, it creates a different look to a room, all because a certain material was chosen.
Choosing coffee tables and end tables is not a priority with most people when they begin to furnish their homes, and even more mature homeowners often look upon these as extras requiring little thought. Whether you are furnishing your first home or are considering renewing the aged and wilting furniture you have been using for more years than you can bear to consider, here are some suggestions that might help you.
Barrels - In this day and age of rustic décor popularity, why not take the theme to your end tables, through barrels. For a real county look, consider a couple of old whiskey barrels as end tables. Many a barrel are finished and sealed to make them attractive, and very sturdy, end table additions. If you really want to make the look fun, you can get blank barrels and write your own words on the side, with your family name or other phrase that means something to you and your family. You can even have a piece of glass to fit in the end to have a glass top.
So you just found the perfect chairs for your living room, but you need something to make them feel a part of the room? Well why not try an end table between them. I mean if you are sitting there you'll want to set your drink somewhere right? Traditionally we don't think of end tables of adding much style to a room they usually have simple straight lines and are pretty plain. But you need to open your mind to really see the potential end tables have for making a statement in your living room.
Nesting tables are a rather new concept in furnishings. The idea originated between 1930 and 1935. The original designs consisted of three to four small tables that could be stacked one upon the other. As time went on, designers also figured out that they could also be stored one under another, creating a piece of furniture that offered maximum space in a very small package.
Round tables are really in this year as a style, but while round coffee tables and round dining tables have taken center stage, it can be harder to find round end tables. That's not to say that these tables aren't still trendy. It's just that traditional brick and mortar retailers have only so much room for furniture and these other round tables have captured all the press this year.
If you are a little uneasy about coordinating furnishings, you can get a fully-coordinated look when you buy a suite of furniture-sofa and loveseat, sectional and club chairs, coffee table and living room end tables, lamps and accessories. Take measurements and maybe draw a sketch of your living room-place the entryways and windows carefully--before you head out to shop. If they look great but don't fit, those new tables won't do you a bit of good.
